The Rural Electrification Administration was founded in 1935 to provide electricity to rural Americans. The program was a massive success. In 1935, only 11% of American farms were electrified - but thanks to the REA, in 1960 around 97% were!

The program would continue until 1994, when it was incorporated into the Rural Utilities Service.
